Progress over the last month or so has
been good, but largely
invisible, mostly wiring and electrical under board stuff!
Fenton and I did make up the 'cosmetic' point rodding:
Brass wire 'staples' were made to represent the 'stools'
that the rodding slides
in. The rodding is Mig welding wire, soldered to the 'stools'.
Etched brass cranks
were used where the rodding changed direction to the point tie
bars and locking devices
(these are not actually represented as they were usually covered
by boarding).
A close up of the Main line points. The rod linkages toe
the tiebars have not been
installed yet.
This is the connections for the catch
point. As it is a facing point, it has a point
lock linked to the same operating rod as the Branch exit point
lock.
The Main Line and this point all have an experimental tiebar
mounted under
the baseboard, two brass wires pass up through holes under the
blades and are
soldered to the underside of the blades, thus avoiding the
unsightly functional
tie bar and operating crank seen in the next picture.
This is the Branch exit point. The coach is standing on the
Branch single line.
For the last couple of Sundays, we have
had the use of a local community hall,
which has enabled us to set up the extension board and the two
adjacent boards.
Fenton (on the left) and Gary test the new point work with a
loco. This was the
first time that the three boards have been set up since before
the track was laid
on the new board.
The backscene where the branch passes
through is in place. On the baseboard
can be seen the all important bottle of PVA adhesive and can of
lager. It's thirsty
work building a railway!
The significance of the two clocks on
the wall has puzzled us....We decided that
one must be Railway (or London) time and the other West Country
time!
